Also they're in the middle of ramping up everything at RSW and DEN, and while I believe they could do it, I bet they want to get those settled and stable before making any rush to open yet another service point. There's also the whole SEA/BFI issue swirling around that'll keep the "new service location" group busy for a bit. CLT people have a reasonable two hour drive to RDU that they've been making for years because of the US hub fares.
I could see something like CAE or GSP in the area as an alternate, too. I'm not sure how many mainline gates would be available in CLT if they wanted to come in -- PIT was available because US had reduced service so much.
