!!UPDATE!!

I have been staying at the ES Washington DC on 22nd (the OP's hotel). We got a letter under the door today stating:

Embassy Suites, Downtown Washington DC is committed to you having a quality stay while visiting our nation's capitol. We are please to announce the completion of the installation of our brand new fire alarm system. This installation is part of our continued upgrade to the property.
