According to NWA's Customer First (Part 6): "Meals are served in the First Class cabin on flights over two hours in length that occur during normal meal times." What is frustrating is that the "normal meal time" for dinner apparently varies with the destination. For example, a survey of flights >2 hours at dinner time shows :

Flight 416, DTW-MCO, 7:18pm, Dinner
Flight 331, DTW-LAX, 7:24pm, Dinner
Flight 275, DTW-SAN, 7:25pm, Dinner
Flight 1225, DTW-DEN, 7:28pm, Snack
Flight 1063, DTW-SAT, 7:31pm, Nothing
Flight 261, DTW-PHX, 7:33pm, Snack Basket
Flight 1189, DTW-LAS, 7:34pm, Snack Basket
Flight 485, DTW-SEA, 7:35pm, Dinner
Then you need to add in the flight "origination factor" into this matrix; MSP, DTW, and MEM, and on some MKE to LAX if you are confined to Y.

I share your frustration on “normal meal times”. You easily could ask 10 family’s in my neighborhood what their normal meal times were and get 5-7 varied responses.
