They've had this rule in Charleston (SC) for a while. I've always found it irritating, but understandable. The injustice in the situation there IMHO was the fact that the coffee/bookstore chain will sell you a $3 cappuccino with a smile when they know you're holding a boarding pass for a flight and they're 5 feet away from the notsobright who'll tell you you can't take the drink through security.
