2-1 Amex Platinum USA-NZ-AUS

3-5 months ago I went from the USA-NZ-AUS (do not want to be specific for obvious reasons) on AirNZ in BP with my partner. We bought it through his Amex Plat bcs of the 2-1 promotion (ended up being much cheaper than outright) for 9k and change... about 4.5k each... not bad considering our extensive itinerary... all in BP/F. I knew full well I as the companion was not entitle to miles.... but tried anyways on the way back.

So, on the way back from Syd I used a FF program which is a partner of AirNZ and boom, got my miles pronto. Now Im debating whether i should ask for the outbound flight also... but im worried they might catch that they awarded me miles in error on the inbound... What do you all think? Should I try? if it goes throgh we are talking alot of miles here, way over 10k of course...
