I booked a trip with UA in W fare class. One of the segments is on AC metal but it is a UA ticket. Will I earn status miles with AE on a W fare class or would it make more sense to collect MP points on the trip?

I know the w fare class on UA metal will earn me AE points I am just wondering about the segment on AC metal.
