The leg-rest would not go lock into its TO/Landing position and would not lock into a supporting position when out of it. In other words it would be out (pushed by its own spring) but without supporting any weight (the weight would simply push it down towards its TO/Landing position as far as your legs would push it). It was a B seat, so my companion in A was moved.

The scenario you describe in which Gold/Silver WT+ pax were upgraded (I am aware and accept that being OW Sapphire does not count much) and us moved to their seats would have been very much preferrable to the one we had where we were stuck with it and had to be separated for TO/Land.
