If memory serves me right, this is a yearly service change that America West does with some of their cities. AUS/SAT is always effected, as are MCI/OMA/ELP. The larger a/c are pulled to fill in on routes that have heavy summer flow, I know YVR/RNO/SEA all see changes in their favor usually just as we enter the spring/summer season.
That may be the case for some of the routes you mentioned, but AUS has never gone down to just 1 737 per day. I've been flying the route very regularly for the past four years and the service level has never dropped this low. Heck, I follow this route closely enough to remember last December when they sent a 319 on the route for a couple of days. I was excited at first thinking we were getting more FC on the route, but my excitement waned when I looked farther out in the schedule and saw that it only lasted a week.
