travelinmanS, in an earlier post you said you live in GZ. What about flying out of HKG? I'm sure the fares are HKG aren't bad, particularly on UA. Now that the UA counter at SkyPier is staffed (finally), that might be a good option if the GZ-SFO fares are too high.
