Both options not allowed
You are only permitted a stopover on intercontinental travel. An open jaw is only permitted in ADDITION to the allowable stopover and since your routing does not have an allowable stopover because it is not intercontinental you are stuck with just a plain return ticket.

Them are the rules with Aeroplan, other Star Alliance programs may be different. You may also be successful in booking something different if an agent is not "in the know" so good luck!!

Note that option B even has a double jaw!
