Well, that's what yield (revenue) management is there for, right? Maximize revenues by filling the plane, keeping more or all seats for full-fare passengers on business travel days (Fri, Sun) and allowing leisure travelers to fill seats that would go empty on the other days.
And yes, those fares were also available on LH with the new C cabin, AVOD and Internet (SFO-MUC); I chose AF's new C class (? AVOD, no internet) because with LH one of the connecting flights is on an EN-operated (Air Dolomiti) RJ instead of a full-sized jet, while the trip on AF is all on 320/343s.
