And if you are a lawyer, you should be a member of the ABA - for a lot of other reasons which are beyond the scope of this thread and a travel BB. The hotel rate program is not a reason to join, but it is a nice perk that members get. It is certainly not the reason (or even a reason) to join.
I'm a retired lawyer - and for a lot of reasons beyond the scope of this thread - I have chosen not to be a member of the ABA since the early 1980's. I wouldn't even continue my membership in my state bar association if it didn't offer me a great group excess health insurance policy. OTOH - I travel a lot - and do other things as well - and will join just about anything if it makes sense dollar-wise (best tip I read here recently was how joining some military family association for $20/year would entitle me to all the benefits of membership in the Pentagon Federal Credit Union - which has terrific CD rates).

FWIW - I thought the $350/year for the ABA was really high (used to be less than $100)/year). It is more than my annual state bar membership dues. But thanks for the information about the group code. I typed it in for my next RC stay (in Osaka) - and came up empty-handed. If I type it in for another stay and hit the jackpot - I may consider renewing my membership . Robyn
