To be fair there are many worse rooms in Vegas - really too many to list here but I would include Harrahs, Tropicana and virtually all 3* except Embassy Suites. Other properties such as the Hard Rock have inferior rooms but better location and other amenities (i.e. restaurants) that make them far more desireable places to say.
I think my strong negativism results from the fact the HGVC towers are being constructed from scratch and accordingly my expectations were very high - particularly after staying in Marriott and Starwood timeshares in other places. So I find it the cheap furnishings and mediocre common areas (i.e. gym) to be insulting.
But as stated above, if you have reason to be at this end of the strip, i.e. close to the convention center, then there are many worse choices. But for people coming to play in Vegas, there are many better choices on or near the strip, particularly if you are not getting a promo rate through the HGVC marketing dept.
