This dual citizenship thing is a big demand by the indians who have discarded their indian passports/citizenship in favor of an american/british passport. They primarily want to keep the benefits of holding property in india. None of the most vocal groups wants to live in India nor do they want to meddle in indian politics.

My primary citizenship is German and my father is indian. I had both citizenships till the age of 18 and decided on using the german as it is simply easier to work and travel in the world when holding an EU passport. Germany doesn't allow dual citizenship per se, except when you are of mixed origin like me. Person who want to become german have to quit all previous citizenship(s). If you are caught applying for a passport with your previous citizenshipship country, your german citizenship lapses!
