She has been an infrequent traveller on BA ex-YVR. Today she told me that her miles will expire in May because she hasn't added any points to her BA account in almost 3 years. Her intention is to stay with BA and oneworld, and will probably be travelling a lot more as her circumstances have greatly improved recently. She will be going to ABZ in June, but she believes that this is too late.
Can anyone tell me if she can save her points by doing a non-air transaction which gives BA awards, like a hotel stay? And perhaps a place that I can look to verify the rule?
Thank you for any help.
I'm Aerogold non-SE, so please don't worry.
Your sister can hang on to her miles by making any transaction - a hotel stay, a car rental with Avis, or she could even buy a few miles to top up her account. She's right about her flight to ABZ, as the T&Cs of the EC state 'all flights must be booked and completed before the scheduled mileage expiry to reactivate an account.'
One way to get plenty o' miles is to get an RBC BA Visa - it's a bit pricey ($C 165 per annum) but BA flights will earn 2 miles per dollar spent, and it's a sure way to keep the EC account active. If she's travelling more, she can get enough for that swell MFU (WT+ to CW), which will greatly improve the trip from YVR-LHR
