No. Should be okay.
Just check-in seperately if you are not comfortable. I am sure SIN-SFO better to do it seperately. For me any way. If I said to the security I go somewhere else, i.e. a turn around, I will get red flag!
Then in SFO, check-in for SFO-HKG and that's you can combine with HKG-SIN. I am assuming plenty of connecting time at SFO.
