BP question verify API?

Flying internation tommorrow and did online check-in.

I noticed on my BP I printed it says "Verify API" / Passport/ Intl Doc Requirements.

What is API?

Another item at the bottom of the page after the boarding pass it says:
"International Travelers are required to either swipe a passport at an airport kiosk or present it to an agent at least 1hr prior to departure".

Having flown International three times last year I don't recall swiping my passport or presenting it to an agent 1hr before departure (on the USA side), only showing my passport when boarding the plane,
nor do I remember seeing this on my OLCI printouts from last year.

So, since I already have done OLCI and leaving from the US side do I need to stop at the kiosk and swipe my passport or show it to an agent 1 hour before departure? Or just do what I normally do and show it as I board.

I usually do a kiosk swipe when I'm abroad, but do OLCI when at home.
Again I just don't remember seeing any of that on my OLCI printouts from last year when leaving stateside.
