Sorry, must have been confused since I distinctly remember talking to SMS/Customer Svc a few times who told me that they would clear my upgrade (to "Z" on international BE flights) because of my MM/PM status...maybe it was only on international flights which sometimes, I have found, can be done with some human intervention...
