When travelling to LAS last October with Mrs. Gogie I tried to upgrade the two of us before arriving at the airport (no luck) and again at the airport (at the gate). I have/had E status, she has no status. At the gate I was told that I would get E priority for an upgrade but the Mrs. would get no priority. In the end there was no problem as we both got upgraded.
