Yeah, they "might have", but I personal experience tells me that often they don't. I know for certain that it happened to me once when returning from HNL-SFO. A reservations agent from Tulsa got upgraded and she paid nothing for the trip. As PLT, I was not able to get a sticker upgrade. I know this, because I was single and she had handled my outbound upgrade. We met in HNL a couple of days after I arrived and we were coincidently on the same flight HNL-SFO.
