From what's been mentioned, in this situation you will not be allowed to travel overseas without a passport or other documentation permitting international travel. In the absence of such passport/documentation -- even if you don't have to clear immigration/customs at LHR (which you don't have to for transits) -- you won't be permitted to board the flights you wish because:

1) the airline will not allow you to check-in/board; and
2) the UK will hold the airline accountable for failing to supply APIS-type information from a passport or other documentation serving a similar purpose.

No passport, no go.
