In 20+ years of nonrevving, I have NEVER heard of a door being opened to accomodate a late arriving nonrev on personal travel. In all probability, made even more likely since the FA was in uniform, the addition was a deadhead designated as a MUST RIDE to cover a flight on the other end. Those are understandably higher priority.
