It's not hard to make the purpose of your visit tourism. And a 6-day stop there lends credibility to the notion that you are there as a tourist and nothing more. If you apply for the visa properly, you most probably are going to get the visa. China has had a big leap in the number of tourists the last couple of years, and solo travelling Americans coming for a week of vacation to Shanghai are nothing new to them.
