I've paid the fee in the past when I worked for a different company.

When my current company switched to Amex, the agreement was no MR, even if we were willing to pay the fee ourselves.

I haven't checked lately, but I doubt I would pay it again, as I'm not traveling as much as I did and it's just not worth the fee.
