Abslutely agree. That area of France is not easy to get around quickly. If you have a lot of time, try staying near the beaches north of Colleville-sur-Mer and then go to the area around Bayeux, a charming town. We had the most wonderful stay at Chateau d'Audrieu, a
Relais and Chateaux property....been in the same family for over 200 years and has exquisite rooms. It is not overly expensive and the experience is wonderful. Don't forget the Bayeux Tapestry, Falaise where they have restored the castle of the father of William the Conquerer...also a major battle in WW 2....Caen is nearby and of course Sainte Mere Eglise. Interestin to see the history of the two invasions in one place. Buy some Calvados and visit the shops where they have beautiful lace. For D'Audrieu see www.relaischateaux.com. They also have other hotels nearby and represent outstanding properties.
