I'm sorry, but that does not strike me as good advice. IF (and it's a big if) you can get a flight from Itami Osaka to Narita to link up with your int'l flight, it would seem significantly easier -- and faster -- to fly.

And while not plentiful, there are Itami-Narita flights. For instance, an ANA flight leaves at 1:15 pm, which would make a perfect connection to a 4:20 int'l departure from Narita.

Itami is easy to get to from Kyoto. The OK Limo Bus, which might pick you up at your hotel, is something like 1200 yen.

BTW, if you choose to fly, tell the airline that you're making an int'l connection. I believe there's a 500 yen tax you don't have to pay for the domestic flight.
