UnitedSkies said. Methinks operator error on your part? Also, you need to be 1P (Gold) or above to get an exit row anyway - this might explain why you could not reserve it at booking.

And this is the fault of United Airlines? I had no idea that UA runs and maintains the TSA.
As for gripes 4 and 5, don't tell me about the call center - the people on this board hate it, too.
Now, why was there no GA? Who knows, that's a legitimate gripe. What were the other pax waiting for that flight doing? Were they on the phones, or sitting around? Were there other UA gates in use at the time?
Since it was so easy for you to clear security, perhaps you could have gone back through and spoke with the agent at the ticket counter? I'm sure he'd have been interested to know there was no GA.
