I too thought this was one of AA's stupidest rules, but was promptly (and, in hindsight, properly) put in my place in this somewhat academic thread.

AA could easily revise the rules include AONE/AGLOB fares while keeping out the rest of the A-class rift-raft. Clearly, though, they recognize that the transcon segment of an AONE doesn't represent anything close the the revenue received by a full-fare customer.

For what it's worth, though, the LAX FL really isn't all that special - especially if you already have access to the FL.
