I know you were joking about the I.D. comment, but when my son was four (a year ago), we was subject to additional security, noy by AA, but at the security checkpoint. The TSA agent told me that he was selected because he did not have a valid I.D. with him. We left his passport at home becuase who knew that STL to BDL and back required a passport? The TSA is almost 100% staffed by grocery store bagger rejects.

Back OT, my wife has flown many times (post 9-11) while very pregnant and was never once questioned about her pregnancy.
