Flight from ORD cheaper than YYZ - Same Itinerary

If anyone can explain this to me I'd appreciate it..........

Recently, while booking a flight for my honeymoon in Thailand, I was looking for a decent fare on Air Canada. I had checked from Toronto and the prices are $2700 +Tax pp. (September 30th - October 15th)

All flights below are V class.

Flight AC015 YYZ to HKG (Sep 30)
Flight AC9567 HKG to BKK

Flight AC9568 BKK to HKG (Oct 15)
Flight AC016 HKG to YYZ

Then I decided that I'd just check the flights from Chicago. It's only an 8 hour drive, or 1 1/2 flight for a couple hundred bucks. MUCH to my surprise the flight was listed on AIR CANADA's WEBSITE as only $925+Tax pp. The flight took me through Toronto on EXACTLY the same flights listed above. The only difference was that I left Chicago on the night of the September 29th, had a layover overnight in which I would just go home since I live in Toronto anyhow and you have to clear customs and can leave the airport then catch the SAME flight on the morning of the 30th.

All flights below are L class.

Flight AC508 ORD to YYZ (Sep 29)
Flight AC015 YYZ to HKG (Sep 30)
Flight AC9567 HKG to BKK

Flight AC9568 BKK to HKG (Oct 15)
Flight AC016 HKG to YYZ
Flight AC513 YYZ to ORD

The reservation person I talked to on the phone couldn't explain it either and she said I should book it since obviously it was wrong and would be fixed and to double check they are both in CAD (they were) so I booked it however the price hasn't changed and if you go and search it now you'll find exactly the same prices. She also said that I could simply end my trip in Toronto on the way home to avoid having to fly to Chicago, then back to Toronto on the 15th of October. So, for $900 x 2 people plus 2 one way tickets to Chicago cost me just over half what it would have cost to fly from Toronto. Anyone have any idea how this could be?! The obvious answer is that the classes are different, but if L class is available from ORD-YYZ-HKG-BKK why isn't it available from YYZ-HKG-BKK on the same flights?
