At Christmas, a CATSA screener decided he needed to wand me after I came through the metal detector. I asked him a simple question: "I didn't set off the metal detector, why are you wanding me?". He just keeps repeating "I'm just doing my job" and "You don't need to submit to a search if you don't want to fly".
I just asked a simple question, trying to look for ways I could speed up the process next time.
The luggage screener caught on to my "questioning", and decided to do one of those searches where they go through your underwear looking for bombs. I was quite early for my flight, so I just laughed at her, never stopped smiling as I politely ask her to properly fold the pair of socks she just messed with. She was red at the end of it because she realized that she didn't make me upset.
These people are miserable, perhaps because they couldn't pass the personality test for some police force, and the only way they can make their day better is to try and put people in a bad mood.
Regarding abuse of CATSA screeners: you get back what you give.
