I have a 250gb FW800 drive that works fine.
The reviews on saft seem very mixed. Yes, when it works, it works well, but when, for instance, a new version of Safari come out (like last week), Safari won't work at all until the author releases a new version, which he may, or may not, decide to charge you for (nothing like holding your browser hostage). The author has been dinged numerous times for very poor customer support. When I see software with this many mixed reviews, I tend to stay away, regardless of how great it may be.

My point about Safari is that Apple should have support for saved sessions. Every other tabbed browser I've run across (Avant, IE7, Firefox, Camino, Mozilla) all have this support included or as a free plugin.

The drive issue is fairly well documented, and the external case is pretty old, which makes me suspect the internals of the external case.
