VIE does sell itself on short connection times. If you have a very short connection there will normally be someone waiting for you to take you directly to the next flight. otherwisae if you can go through the transfer desk or if you have the time you can clear passport control and walk to your next flight. I have had a 5 minute connection in VIE when my flight from LHR was late they just walked me to my next flight which was at the next gate. When I asked about my luggage they showed me out of hte window someone carrying my case accross to the plane.

As far as luggage goes short connections have never been a problem. But the couple of times I have had two hour plus connections there both times my luggage failed to make it to my next flight.
