Don't know about #1, but my thoughts on #2 are:
- He wanted to make a scene and get some attention (like streakers who try to get on national TV at a sporting event)
- He was "probing" the screening process to see whether he could get through with something strapped to his leg -- although that doesn't really explain his behavior after he was discovered
- He's not playing with anywhere near a full deck
