Anyone here ever traveled with fishing rods on a UA flight? I understand that one gear carrier can be checked in if within certain size (105" long max?), and it counts as 1 piece of luggage. Could anyone confirm?

Furthermore, I was planning to use the automated check-in kiosks, but I'm afraid it's not possible if I'm traveling with the fishing equipment?
