I'm afraid you have to take the flights to get the credit for it, even though you've paid for them and from BA's point of view it's actually better that you don't turn up and they can possibly re-sell your seat!

It would sure make getting Silver/Gold on the BAH-DOH run easier if you didn't actually have to get out to Bahrain in the first place!!
