It is no longer necessary to leave the secured area when connecting between terminals (A through E) at MIA; this changed a few months ago. The worst-case transfer time is about 15 minutes walking at a reasonable pace; most flights are a 5 minute connection. MIA is greatly improved now that there is a real AC inside security and no need to go landside for most connections (E high is an exception, but used by only a handful of flights).
