I connect quite often @IAD from West Coast redeyes to LHR morning flight.
Luggage is checked right to the destination and BP's printed at the beginning of the journey. If you don't like the seat assignment, you could try to change it at IAD.
Food? Yes, there's food in Y. Hot, with a choice. And free booze? Dream on... ( sometimes dreams come true, but probably not in your case. Maybe in the future... )
