Domestically I would say it is a very bad use of miles - the differences are a bigger seat, a drink and maybe a snack (assuming you are flying from within the U.S.).
Save your points to fly internationally. Personally if you are coming from within the U.S., don't even use your points for this trip unless the fares are very high. That 100K can get you a seat in a premium cabin over either the Atlantic or Pacific, a much, much better value IMO.
