Layovers at KIX and NGO

New to FT. Time to use some mile, leave the opressive February gray of ATL for the sunshine of SE Asia (Bali) for a few days next week. I've booked ATL-ORD-KIX-BKK-DPS-BKK-NGO-SFO-ATL. The domestic legs are in E+: trans-pac in UA/F: intra Asia TG/J. The routing is not great, two layovers are stupidly long, but the price is right ($44 in taxes) and the Bintang is cold.

Two question for those wiser than I:

1.) Ideas for spending some time in KIX. I arrive at 1720 and depart 0125. I've read some of the KIX posts, but I gotta confess, seeing the castle at Kyoto at night in February does not have great appeal.

2.) On the return, I've got 8.5 daytime hours at NGO. I can take a bath (enjoyed that post) or join the crowds looking at planes, but does anyone have any suggestions for a decent place to eat (maybe shower) and stretch my legs before the flight to SFO?

Thank you all and if I can buy anyone a drink along the way, let me know.

Cheers.
