Kimptons in WDC (Hotel Rouge) -- Thumbs-Up

I am not sure if this is the right place for this thread -- I wouldn't call Kimpton a "luxury" brand on par with R-C or Four Seasons, but I don't believe that there's a thread for it elsewhere -- but I'd like to report a positive experience with these properties.

With the exception of trips to Vegas, I had never stayed at a hotel other than either a chain to which I am loyal (Starwood, Marriott, Hyatt) or a luxury brand that I trust (R-C, Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental). However, after absolutely loving the beautiful bars at Topaz, Rouge, and Helix in D.C., I decided to stay at the Rouge just for fun.

It was a good experience. The rooms were huge by D.C. standards, with nice bedding, robes, and toiletries, as well as complimentary internet, a comfortable sitting area, a stereo system and DVD player, and a huge work space. I wouldn't call it lavish or highly sumptuous, but certainly bordering on elegant. The room was accented with attractive red furnishings, wall coverings, artwork, and lighting (my only slight complaint is that the room was rather dark -- not too conducive to working). Each evening they had a complimentary reception with, of course, red wine, Red Stripe beer, and red licorice. The service was excellent, attending to my few needs just fine, and without the attitude that I would have expected and have experienced at a "hip" place. I even ate a meal at the bar (which serves breakfast and evening snacks) and found the food and service to be excellent, to go along with my many successful prior experiences drinking there and in the adjoining sitting area known as the "dark room."

The hotel is certainly not appropriate for every occasion (e.g., a busy work week in which you need robust dining, a gym, and business services), but for a change of pace it was enjoyable.

Anyone have any experience staying at one of the other Kimptons in D.C.?
