OK, this weekend we planned a trip to NYC to see some of the dog shows. IAD-LGA (UA846) was cancelled due to mechanical. Of course, the weather caused cancellation of all flights into NYC after our original flight was cancelled.

We hightailed it out of Dulles at 1:45 pm, made it to the BWI Amtrak station by 3 pm, and caught the 3:52 train to Penn Station. Made it to NYC at 7 pm, checked into the W Tuscany y 7:15 pm, and had a lovely dinner at ICON (at the W Court next door) at 8:30. When we passed out from exhaustion at 11 pm, it was snowing but not sticking.

This morning, we woke up, and it looked like we were inside the the New York City snow globe. It has been entertaining eating our room service breakfast while watching the taxis and SUV's try to make their way up 39th with a foot of snow on it.

In any event, our United flight were obtained using GATW certificates. The flight was cancelled due to mechanical, not weather. What should I expect in terms of compensation? I would settle for 2 free roundtrips.
