I think he means 'buy a ticket for a flight that departs from T1' as opposed to 'buy a ticket from the T1 ticket desk,' and do the whole OLCI/PYOB from the comfort of your own home.

Bear in mind you'll get stung for a £15 cancellation fee if you book direct with BA. Or I suppose you could simply rebook for a future date if it's a route you use regularly.
