There are currently two longhaul cabin crew bases - AKL and LHR. The LHR based crew operate only LHR-LAX-LHR services but no doubt will eventually operate the upcoming new London services.
NZ already employs Chinese-speaking crew who are mainly rostered on the SIN and HKG flights, but I assume their numbers would need to be expanded with the Shanghai flights. Yes there have been rumours about a Shanghai base opening up. Personally of course I hope it doesn't happen, but in today's desperate operating conditions who knows what will be done to save money. However I'm optimistic that, since one of NZ's biggest selling points up to now has been the 'Kiwi experience' offered onboard, that a Shanghai base would be a small one, if it does happen.
