I know this is OT, but I can't let this one go. Okay, what testing are you talking about? I'm interested in seeing the actual test information.

There are two issues with cell phones. First is that most phones operate in the same bands as some of the equipment onboard the aircraft. While filters are installed to limit interference, cell phone power output is many times greater than that of other personal electronics. The second issue is the underlying electronics and their EMI potential. It's interesting that there have been numerous reports of PDA phones wiping out room keys and credit card mag stripes when left in the same pocket. But I'm sure that's just a coincidence Also, it's simply a coincidence that when the rule to limit electronic devices, especially cell phones, below 10k ft was introduced, pilot reports of electronic anomolies dropped.

I'm not a believer in the whole let's limit all electronics. However, having worked with RF technologies, it's amazing what can cause interference and unintended effects. Usually, it's damaged or malfunctioning equipment that on the surface look to be in good working order.
