I don't tip them anymore.

When I first took Acela Express F quite a few times back around 9/11 I recall one attendant actualy having her drinks tray out with a clear plastic cup on it with some dollar bills while we we exiting the train at a stop. I gave, then, about 3 or 4 singles.

Also, at this time, when they knew I was the next stop they let me know that it was my stop next, and then when we got close I began to get my bags out they commented on how nice my bags were--clearly eyeing me for a tip most likely on the spot

I even had one attendant two times on different week but same train, yet I only gave to her the first time although she did not recognize me.

If I did give it would only be to those who are at the exit door of the car (usualy one and they stand on the platform). I would not make a trip to the galley to give an attendant something, although isn't there only 1 attendant now in F?

In addition more often than not they are not looking me in the eye when I exit, which is a big requirement of mine, rather they are watching my feet for safety or looking at my bags--so then I do not feel inclined to give then.

So to me is not relly dependant on service, but rather do they look me in the eye through the trip or on exit. Although I had a very very grumpy attendant and I certainly woul dnot have given to him.

In addition, I no longer see many if any at all giving tips any longer. So there may be some inernal Amtrak policy about soliciting or passengers are not happy with service any longer or there is not the need or urgency of them this far away from 9/11.

I hope my thoughts help.
