No tips for getting it waived, but 2 weeks ago when I asked them to cancel my Platinum card (because they would not waive or reduce the $135 annual fee) they made a counteroffer of either a $50 credit, or 10,000 Skymiles if I did not cancel and paid the $135.

I would at least try cancelling to see if you can squeeze this out of them...if you can't get anything you can always back out of cancelling at the last minute.
