Actually, if the car service is out because of cost concerns, I'm wondering if it's better to taxi to Penn Sta or Port Authority and take the bus? No traffic obviously, so ride should be pretty quick, and it drops you off right at the terminal, so no monorail shenannigans. (But if you have to stop at Terms A and B before getting to C, then maybe it isn't such a great idea).
