After my overseas flight upstairs in a 747 last month I almost started a thread titled 'FAMs are funny'. One of the guys on the way back was vaguely subtle, but a blind man could have spotted the other 3. There's no point in advertising here what the 'tells' were, though the baggy 'FAM, class of '05' sweatshirt was a hint.

I'm surprised that people say all FAMs are big and burly Marine types. I can think of lots of people that I have met with very different body types who - given their years of training - would have no trouble dealing physically with attackers. I would assume that there are lots of FAMs who don't meet the profile above. Heck, if I dressed better, people might take me for a FAM .
