Some questions (and findings):
1. Can a current CRC member add additional membership years? The fine print from the 2001 signup/renewal offer(http://www.delta.com/skymiles/newsletter/english_na_0110/05/index.jsp) states:
"Newly purchased membership may be added onto current membership. Current members wishing to renew their membership early to take advantage of the offer will not receive their new membership cards until 30 days before expiration of their current membership"
So this does not appear to be an issue.
2. Can you purchase multiple years at one time? Additional fine print says,
"Crown Room Club membership obtained by the redemption of frequent flyer miles is not eligible for this onetime bonus mileage offer and $20 discount"
Since 'onetime bonus' is explicitly mentioned, this would seem to imply that you COULD make mulitple purchases (years), but that you CANNOT receive bonus miles for any past the first one.
3. Is these any 'window' for renewal (ie. within 3 months of your current expiration)? From the fine print of #1, my thoughts would be that there is none. The only restriction when extending a membership seems to be that you won't get a CRC card reflecting your new expiration date until the current one expires.
So, that brings me to two cases:
1. Passenger 1 - CRC member, GM for 2002, but flies no segments in 2002. Wants to add additonal year(s) to membership because he/she knows rate as non-GM in 2003 will be higher.
Anytime up to the end of his/her GM status (Feb 28 2003?), he/she can add to the CRC membership. He/she pays the GM rate ($275 ind, $425 w/ spouse)
2. Passenger 2 - CRC member, PM for 2002, but flies no segments in 2002. Also wants to add years because know rate will be higher next year.
Questions:
1. Is a PM allowed to extend his CRC membership (to take advantage of bonus prices, price increases, etc.)?
2. If so, what price would a PM be charged? I'd hope no more than the GM price, but how does the system handle it?
3. Would the fact that the PM already has some existing CRC membership balance (was a paying CRC member before receiving the extra 1yr free for becoming PM) make a difference?
